ETC kick-off
A letter to parents
Dear Parents of Senior High Students:
With school starting this week, I wanted to write a quick letter to you regarding St. Andrew’s youth ministry for senior high students. E.T.C. (Eternally Trusting Christ) has been ministering to senior high students in the Iowa City area for the past 30+ years. I have been the Director of Youth Ministries at St. Andrew for the last 25 years after serving as Youth Director in Miami, FL prior to coming Iowa City. Over the past 25 years, it has been exciting to see literally 1,000’s of senior high students become involved in the program and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.
E.T.C. meets during the school year on Sunday evenings (6:30pm – 8:30pm) at St. Andrew for any student in 9th thru 12th grade. The highlight of the summer is always “The Pittsburgh Project” service camp in Pittsburgh, PA. All students finishing 9th – 12th grade are welcome to attend. Last summer for the third consecutive summer, the week has been nearly filled to capacity.
The Sunday evening program consists of:
6:30 – 7:00 Game/Mixer
7:00 – 7:30 Group Singing
7:30 – 8:20 Small Group Bible Studies.
Last year E.T.C. attempted to introduce two new programs structures to E.T.C. The first being more permanent small groups. Students were placed in small groups according to “class and gender” which then met in place of the random small group Bible studies on Sunday evenings. Secondly, we introduced a Sunday evening meal to the program. Both new program structures had both positive and negative aspects. For example the meal for students coming to E.T.C. directly after Agape Choir lost money. This year we are going to eliminate the meal time and bring back the random small group time for Bible studies. However, we will occasionally meet with gender/class small groups.
We will be officially kicking off the school year on Sunday, August 29 at 6:30pm with a BURGER BASH and MINUTE TO WIN IT contest. The burgers are FREE! Students are encouraged to bring friends to this event or any regular E.T.C. program. If there is a particular student you wish for us to personally invite, please give me a call at the church (338-7523) or e-mail me at randyh@saintandrew-ic.org. More information concerning E.T.C. can be found on the church web site: www.saintandrew-ic.org.
PEACE,
Randy Hausler

P.S. “Everyday”. Sometimes we fail to see the importance of this word. We don’t realize that when we say the word “everyday” that we are giving people a look at the deepest regions of our soul. The answer we give describes us and tells our identity and what we really want in life. You see, this is true because what we do everyday by choice shows what we think is important. Musicians practice their instruments, athletes prepare for their games, artist paint their pictures, businessmen conduct business, and so on. To take away the things we do everyday by our own choice is to strip us of all we are. At E.T.C., our goal is to express this thought to the students and help them to find out what is important to them. We want to help each student find the important thing in their life while displaying what’s in our everyday…Jesus. Join us every Sunday night at 7:00pm to experience out everyday.
