MUSIC

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
-Psalm 100

2012 Music Ministry Worship Schedule

Mission of the Music Ministry: To equip disciples in the worship of God through the offering of musical prayers, the proclamation of God’s Word and the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Music plays an important role in the expression of our faith, a vehicle for responding to God’s incredible grace, and, as the psalmist says, a way to proclaim God’s goodness “among the peoples”. The Music Ministry’s primary role is to provide support and encouragement to the primary music ensemble – the congregation, through expressions of both praise and lament by the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Music ensembles provide community, a sense of belonging, a small group, where people can gather together and share with others the praises and joys, concerns and hurts of their lives while opening themselves to the power of prayer and the Word of God. The Music Ministry at St. Andrew is a reflection of what it is to be the body of Christ – where, as the apostle Paul says, there is no longer Jew or Greek, male or female, old or young, rich or poor, professional or amateur, but people of all ages and walks of life who gather together in ensembles to deepen their relationship as children of the living and loving God who then go out to “sing of God among the peoples.” Where else in society do people of all ages gather together in the same activity? In an age where more and more people are segregated according to age groupings or musical tastes or abilities, we at St. Andrew strive to counter this reality by providing opportunities for all ages and abilities to come and “sing and make music to the Lord.”

Soli Deo Gloria! Glory to God Alone!

The Agape Singers, Logos Choir and friends presented selected movements from In His Own Words, a large work by Dan Goeller that incorporates words of Jesus Christ that are found in the various gospels of the Bible, on Sunday, May 22. Photos by Wanda Halverson
